Research Interests
The Shantz lab is involved in materials development, with particular emphasis in the field of energy. The laboratory couples controlled synthetic chemistry with robust analytical characterization and material testing to enable rational material design. This allows Shantz to bring the fundamental knowledge gained via synthesis and characterization to bear, in a meaningful way, on societally relevant problems. Current work in the lab includes investigating nanoporous material growth in solution.; nanocomposite membranes for separations; and investigating the reactivity of well-defined organic layers on porous oxide substrates.
