Financial Aid

As a general rule, all Ph.D. students receive a base stipend of $1800/month. In addition, tuition, fees, and health insurance is provided. Support for Ph.D. students is provided by the department until a research advisor is chosen during the first semester and the support is then continued by the research advisor.

Fellowships


National Excellence Fellowships (NEF)

The application form now includes a section at the end for departmental verification and department head approval. The process will be:

1. Departmental “graduate contacts” will accept NEF applications and confirm that the NEF applicant is a Ph.D. graduate applicant to that department.

2. The departmental contact will immediately pass on the confirmed applicant packets to the department head for consideration.

3. The department head will pass on NEF application packets to Sherry in 301 WERC with a final due date of Thursday, January 15, 2009

4. The college will notify department heads and departmental graduate contacts (as listed on the website) of awardees by Friday, March 20, 2009.

Scholarships

The department is offering a number of $1000 scholarships for Chemical Engineering Graduate students. Due to the expected number of applicants, there will be serious competition for these scholarships. Please be sure to put forth the appropriate effort in creating your application packet. Availability of funds varies from year to year and semester to semester. There may be semesters where no funding is available.

Things that you will need to have in order to complete the packet:

  • Fill out the Graduate Scholarship Application NOTE: Please submit to Dr. Shantz
  • One Page Resume
  • Letter of Support (i.e. from your Research Advisor)
  • One page essay describing why you should receive a scholarship
